Asus: The Plague of The Dc Jack

That the jack (or plug socket, whatever you want) of a laptop can be damaged , due to wear or mechanical stress, is not very infrequent, but what happens to Asus notebooks of the X53, X54, X71 series etc. it really looks like an epidemic ... a real curse that has fallen on Asus.

In reality, the problem of the breakdown of the power plug in these PCs has nothing esoteric, but is the cause of a trivial motherboard design error: in fact, the failure that occurs, when in these computers while inserting the plug into the socket jack the power does not come and the battery does not charge(the computer works only on battery power, as long as it is charged ...) is the fracture of the central contact (the one that carries the positive of the incoming power from the AC / DC of the laptop) of the plug connector. And this applies to 100% of the notebooks that arrived in the laboratory.

This happens not due to a design defect in the outlet(this problem would be easily solved by changing the component supplier), but because this jack, like all those mounted directly on the motherboard (on some PCs the jack is fixed to the body ...) is welded to it and its stability depends on the strength of the solder , in turn linked to the number of anchor points and their arrangement with respect to the effort determined by the insertion and extraction of the plug of the power supply.

In the Asus we are talking about, the plug socket has four points of support , and so far it is perfect; the fact is that the two on one side are soldered to a "tongue" of the PCB a few millimeters wide, left alone to face the effort imposed by the insertion and extraction of the plug. The result is that this bends every time, causing the jack to twist, and for a long time (not so much, because the fault occurs quickly ...) going the central contact, subjected to bending and twisting, breaks.

This fault is difficult to detect with the naked eye because the fracture occurs where the contact comes out of the body of the jack socket, but it becomes evident by looking with a magnifying glass or trying continuity with a tester and flexing the jack, obviously after opening the notebook.

The Touchpad

Because of this, the touch-pad is normally sensitive to humidity present in the environment.

In addition to the capacitive one, there may be a resistive touch-pad, where pressing creates a contact between two layers of conducting electricity. The device detects the contact point by processing the data on the resistance detected between a vertical and a horizontal side. 

This touch-pad can be used with your fingers (even when wearing gloves), nails, nibs etc. The possibility of using the pen is precluded in the capacitive type peripheral.
