HTTP, HTTPS and Google ranking

HTTP or HTTPS? Is the encrypted protocol really making a difference in the ranking of websites?

There are rumors that since June 2017 Google has even begun to penalize all those sites defined as "unsafe", that is, which do not provide for the use of the https protocol ... like this one, which currently has no security protocol and which to date does not register any penalty ...

Could it be yet another "unclear" and "unprofessional" lever of those who want to sell a new service, certainly useful, passing it as vital ?!

Is it correct to say that the failure to switch to the https protocol is leading to drops in visibility to those sites that have not yet implemented this solution? is it proven or demonstrable?

Is it correct to say that with the next updates the search engines may advise against accessing a site on which the above mentioned security protocol is not installed? is it proven or demonstrable?

The https protocol makes it possible to increase the security of data exchange between a website and a user

In sites with HTTPS protocol , request and response data are encrypted, and therefore pass securely, thus allowing both the site owner and visitors to be protected.

In a site like the one you are browsing, where registration data, login data, personal information or anything else are not requested, except for some more or less mandatory fields in the application forms ... is it such an essential factor?

Of course, if it were an e-commerce, it would be one of the requirements that should be guaranteed!

If our goal is to promote positioning in search engines and improve the security of the data passing through the site, is the HTTPS protocol essential?

This protocol is fundamental for some realities:

E-commerce sites : there is usually user registration on the site with consequent exchange of data including password, email address, personal information, and thanks to the https protocol this information is encrypted in order to allow a high level of security.

Sites that provide a registration area : also in this case the transmitted data, name password, email address, personal information are protected thanks to the security protocol.

Since January 2017, Google has updated its algorithms, and some say it is greatly favoring the ranking of sites that use the HTTPS protocol . This protocol is therefore an element that affects the quality score of a site and its ranking ... even if it is not yet fully demonstrable and therefore from the concept of "fundamental element" one should move on to the concept of "recommended element".

How do you go about switching to the HTTPS protocol?

Some technical steps are needed, which are sometimes underestimated, other times performed partially or in an incorrect order.

It is essential to acquire the security certificate from authorized entities, to be associated with your domain.

This certificate must then be installed on the server on which the domain resides and therefore the site to be protected.

When changing the protocol from HTTP to HTTPS, it is essential to correctly configure the redirects of all the pages of the website.

Obviously the aspect of testing and verifying the correct functioning of the new URLs should not be underestimated.

An updated sitemap should be created and submitted to Google so that search engines are aware of the new URLs.

The configuration of Google Analytics must be modified and updated.
