Asus: The Plague of The Dc Jack

This happens not due to a design defect in the outlet(this problem would be easily solved by changing the component supplier), but because this jack, like all those mounted directly on the motherboard (on some PCs the jack is fixed to the body ...) is welded to it and its stability depends on the strength of the solder , in turn linked to the number of anchor points and their arrangement with respect to the effort determined by the insertion and extraction of the plug of the power supply.

In the Asus we are talking about, the plug socket has four points of support , and so far it is perfect; the fact is that the two on one side are soldered to a "tongue" of the PCB a few millimeters wide, left alone to face the effort imposed by the insertion and extraction of the plug. The result is that this bends every time, causing the jack to twist, and for a long time (not so much, because the fault occurs quickly ...) going the central contact, subjected to bending and twisting, breaks.

This fault is difficult to detect with the naked eye because the fracture occurs where the contact comes out of the body of the jack socket, but it becomes evident by looking with a magnifying glass or trying continuity with a tester and flexing the jack, obviously after opening the notebook.

The Touchpad
